Cardiff fashion: We are all individuals… sort of.

Style. We all want it. Some of us claim to have more than others. Many of us claim to be individual with it. But how realistic is it to be individual in this day and age? There are a limited number of shops, designs and styles and a large amount of people after the same thing. Individuality.

The UK has always been at the forefront of the fashion industry, with its fair share of world class art schools and fashion houses. But how does Cardiff compare to it’s world renowned neighbour, London?

I moved to Cardiff five years ago, and will readily admit that my tastes have changed since I first arrived, hopefully for the better… Gone is the black-clad emo/goth teenager, I also had a short foray into nu-rave and many other embarrassing trends along the way. But I have to say, Cardiff shops delivered on all of these styles. There is such a breadth of shops and a wide range of clothes that it was easy, almost too easy, to swap and change styles like the weather! It’s safe to say I was a victim of choice. But enough about me and my badly-clothed past.

What’s out there now in the city for the fashion forward among you? Well, plenty. Not very detailed I know, but there is plenty out there- you just have to know what you’re looking for and where to find it. Over the next few weeks I will be unearthing some of the forgotten fashion gems of Cardiff, as well as ‘bigging up’ some of the old reliables. Keep checking back for information, as well as tips, tricks and hints for creating your own clothes! If you have any ideas of shops, clothes, trends or sewing tips that you think should be covered then don’t hesitate to contact us here at yourCardiff.
