Since its inaugural event in 2007, Swn Festival seems to have become as much a part of Cardiff’s musical landscape as a Super Furries side project or a Stereophonics stadium gig.
The city has already seen a host of Swn affiliated shows in recent weeks, adding to the sense of Swn as something integral to the cities cultural life, rather than the travelling circus behemoth that most major festivals have come to resemble.
One of the beauties of Swn is that they often eschew more established artists in favour of putting on something people may be yet to discover. This Monday’s official launch party at Cardiff’s Arts Institute should be no different with South Carolina’s Toro Y Moi and Seams. Both have been creating somewhat of a buzz of late in all the right circles and here’s your chance to say you saw them first.
With both artists being purveyors of the more relaxed end of glitchy electronica, recently dubbed “chillwave”, this should be the perfect way to ease yourself in gently for the live music frenzy to come at the weekend.
This event takes place Monday 18th October at Cardiff Arts Institute. Tickets are £5 or free with a Swn Festival wristband.
