Extra crews drafted in to clear Cardiff rubbish backlog

cardiff waste collections

As the row about how Cardiff council dealt with the cold weather rumbles on extra waste crews have been called in to deal with the rubbish back-log.

As the city experienced some of its worst winter weather for 30 years many bin collections were cancelled as crews struggled to reach parts of the city.

The council is carrying out extra green bag collections and bin collections are due to return to normal next week.

Council leader Rodney Berman said: “The extreme weather conditions have caused obvious problems to waste collection across the city, particularly in north Cardiff, but council staff are working extremely hard to clear this backlog. This has been a difficult period for all local authorities but I would like to praise staff for their dedication and hard work during this challenging time.”

The council is urging people to logon to its Winter Weather section of the council website for updates.
