A group of cyclists will be cycling this weekend from one end of Wales to the other in memory of their former cycle club chairman.
Eric Hodge was chairman of the Cardiff Ajax club until he passed away aged 77 after a battle with cancer.
16 members of the club will ride from Holyhead to Cardiff on Saturday 18 June to raise money for Marie Carie Cancer Care.
Cardiff Ajax Chairman Mark Austin said: “Eric was a great long-distance rider, completing the Lands End to John O’Groats route when he was 77 years old to raise money for the Welsh Guards welfare charity supporting our troops in Afghanistan.
“This Welsh End to End is a fitting tribute by the club. We are particularly pleased that one of the younger riders in the club has taken on organising this very challenging event with such enthusiasm.”
Mr Hodge was the chairman of the club in the 1980s when it battled to stop the council building a ‘super leisure centre’ on their Maindy track base.
The group will set off from Anglesey at 4am and arrive in Cardiff around 8.30pm, finishing at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay.
The 16-hour ride will see the riders burn as many as 10,000 calories along the way.
The group have already raised over 50% of their £3,000 target. To sponsor the group you can donate via their Justgiving page.
