West End star Lucie Jones is leading the search for new singer-songwriting talent as part of this year’s Cardiff Music Festival.
The winner of The Stage will receive a week of studio time at Acapela studios in Pentyrch, working with a professional engineer and producer to release a recording on the Kissan Records label. Each finalist will also have a single released on iTunes via the label.
X Factor finalist and Les Miserables star Lucie, who is from Pentyrch, has teamed up with Only Men Aloud’s David Mahoney, the festival’s artistic director, for the search.
The live final will take place as part of the festival on October 4. The finalists will be judged by a panel, including Lucie, David Hywel Wigley (Acapela Studio/Kissan Records) and Karen Price (chief arts correspondent for Media Wales).
“I’m incredibly excited about the Cardiff Music Festival’s latest venture to unearth new musical talent and give them a platform for their own music,” said Lucie as plans for The Stage were announced during a launch at Cardiff’s Kuku Club last night.
The live final will provide a fitting opening to the second Cardiff Music Festival, the line-up for which will be announced later this year.
David launched the event last September in a bid to take music to a wider audience and provide a platform for emerging talent.
The Stage is a new addition this year and it’s open to contestants from any part of the UK and further afield, of any age, and covering any genre of music.
