A university graduate will be rubbing shoulders with comedy superstar Omid Djalili after winning this year’s Welsh Unsigned Stand Up Award.
Fledgling 26-year-old comic Jordan Brookes, who graduated with a degree in animation this summer from the University of Wales, Newport, walked off with the highly coveted crown after the final held at the Glee Club in Cardiff as part of Cardiff Comedy Festival.
As part of his prize, he’ll join the bill of the Cardiff Comedy Festival Grand Gala Finale at St David’s Hall on Sunday, this year headlined by actor and TV star Djalili.
He’ll also receive a cheque for £1,000 and will soon be returning to the scene of his triumph after winning a paid weekend at the Glee Club as part of the prize package.
For Jordan, who runs his own comedy club Vagabond at Gwdihw Bar in Cardiff, the prize will enable him to concentrate on comedy full-time.
“A few years ago, I thought it was something I couldn’t do but my parents were very encouraging,” he said.
