Cardiff’s vintage appeal

Vintage, retro and handmade crafts will be on sale at the Pedal Power Vintage Craft Fair in Pontcanna this weekend. Ahead of the sale, Pedal Power volunteer Rhianon Holley talks about the trend for vintage in Cardiff.

“Vintage appeal continues to grow in Cardiff with its mix of vintage stores, markets and fairs. Demand for vintage pieces is on the increase as savvy shoppers hunt out that individual fashion or homeware item. These days not a weekend goes by without a vintage fair or market popping up in the city.

Appreciation of vintage items is in part knowing that every fair or market will have different items on offer and the joy of finding that unique treasured gem.

The location and atmosphere also adds to the vintage experience. Surrounded by like minded people who have an appreciation for vintage items, and the opportunity to negotiate on price certainly makes a difference.

A unique collaboration between a charity organisation and vintage group is the Pedal Power Vintage and Craft Fair, now an established event in the vintage shopper’s calendar.

The organisers, Penylan Vintage, hand pick their traders for their range and variety of retro, kitsch and handmade products. Since the collaboration with Pedal Power began two years ago, the quarterly event has become one of the largest charity vintage fairs in South Wales.

Also on the vintage event calendar is the Lazy Sunday Sessions at The Globe. Run by Penylan Vintage it promises to be an eclectic mix of retro and kitsch items in a unique venue.

With so many options on the vintage scene, there are plenty of stores, markets and fairs to keep shoppers satisfied. If you are interested in vintage items and don’t know where to begin, the Pedal Power Vintage and Craft Fair is the perfect introduction to your vintage experience.

The Pedal Power Vintage and Craft Fair takes place on Saturday 29 September 11am–4pm at Pontcanna Scout Base, off Fields Park Road. Admission is a £1 donation and free for children with all proceeds raised going to Pedal Power.

The Lazy Sunday Sessions at The Globe takes place on Sunday September 30 at 3pm. Contact for further information.
