A vacant plot of land that once housed a council resource centre in Cardiff will be turned into a residential home for people with dementia, if plans are approved tomorrow.

Private health care provider Bupa Care Home Ltd is seeking planing permission from Cardiff Council to a 78-bed residential and nursing home on the site of the former Heol Don Resource Centre for the Elderly in Whitchurch.

The three-storey building, T-shaped building would also include staff facilities such as a kitchen and laundry, and residents’ gardens outside including a dementia activity garden.

The site on Heol Don is currently vacant after the ouncil resource centre was demolished in 2010.

Although the plot is next to the Church Road Conservation Area – and the access lane to the residential home would pass through it – officers will tell the council planning committee today (WEDS) that the development is appropriate for the site, and will have no adverse impact on the character of the conservation area.

The plans are recommended for approval. See all the applications going before Cardiff’s
