The first delivery of toys at Cardiff’s new Hamleys store arrived in the city this morning, in preparation for the iconic shop’s grand opening next week.
YourCardiff reported in September that Hamleys was planning to open in St David’s shopping centre at 46-48 Grand Arcade, with children and parents alike will finally able to take a look around the new outlet when it opens to the public on November 15.
The first toys were pulled into the store this morning by Santa’s elves – just in time to cater for children’s Christmas lists.
The toy shop’s ‘open box’ policy means that kids are free to play with the toys in the store before buying them, and demonstrators and entertainers are employed to help show children how to use some of more complex toys.
The new Cardiff outlet will create more than 50 jobs, with the majority of these being entertainers and demonstrators.
Hamleys is named after William Hamley, who founded a toy shop called Noah’s Ark in London in 1760.
Outside London, its other stores are located in Glasgow, Dublin, Moscow, Copenhagen and Dubai.
