Police in Tremorfa are appealing for information following a distraction burglary in which the thief stole cash from a visually impaired pensioner.
Officers said the burglary, which took place at around 4pm on Tuesday November 27, involved a man who claimed to be working for the gas board when he called at an elderly man’s home on Craigmuir Road.
The suspect went into the house and had a conversation with the 82-year-old victim, who later realised that a quantity of cash had been stolen.
Police said the suspect is described as up to 6ft tall, of stocky build, and wearing dark clothing. He may have been accompanied by another man.
Detective Constable Kate Fullstone from Cardiff CID said: “This individual can only be described as despicable to have taken advantage of this gentleman who is visually impaired.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have seen the suspect in the vicinity of Craigmuir Road or has any other information to come forward.
“I want to remind house-holders not to allow any cold callers into your home and for local residents to look out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours.”
Anyone with information should contact Cardiff CID on 02920 537 420 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
