Police are appealing for information after a man with a gold tooth and fake French accent tried to rob a young woman in Penwtyn.

South Wales Police said the 19-year-old woman was walking through a wooded area behind Pentwyn Leisure Centre on her way to a friend’s home at around 4pm on Thursday when she was approached by a man demanding money.

She was threatened and punched in the stomach by the man, but managed to ran off and nothing was stolen.

The suspect, who spoke in what is believed to be a fake French accent, is described as white, thin, 6ft tall, and in his early to mid 20s with black shaven hair and a gold bottom tooth.

He was wearing a black hooded top and a pair of black jeans.

DC Richard Fenton said: “This is a very unusual incident for this area and she was a brave lady. I would ask anyone who thinks they either know this individual or might have seen him to contact us.”

Anyone with information should contact Cardiff East CID at Rumney Police Station on 02920 774233 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
