Most of us will be preparing to settle in for a week of excess and indulgence by now, but you may still have letters to post, short journeys to make, or emergency nibbles to buy over the next seven days. And we hope you don’t have to, but you may also need a doctor or a pharmacy in the week between Christmas and New Year.
Here is some information on opening times and websites that you might find useful over the next few days.
A full list of opening hours for pharmacies in Cardiff on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day can be found here.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board says that all GPs’ surgeries should be open this morning, and that those that are planning to close will transfer their telephone lines over to an out of hours service.
If you need a doctor, ring your usual surgery number, and you will either be transferred to the out of hours service automatically, or given the number to ring.
Surgeries will close for Christmas and Boxing Day, but reopen as normal for Thursday December 27 and Friday December 28.
A similar situation to Christmas Eve will be in place for New Year’s Eve, although surgeries will be closed on New Year’s Day. Normal opening hours resume on January 2. Full details can be found here and more general information on accessing winter healthcare services can be seen here.
Cardiff Bus has full details of its Christmas time-table here. It includes:

We always aim to have all our shopping done by now, but there’s always something we’ve forgotten, and supplies often start to run low around December 27. See the opening hours for all of Cardiff’s Tesco stores here, Morrisons here, and ASDA here. If you need to make a quick dash to the St David’s Centre for a forgotten gift, you can find its opening times here.
The City of Cardiff Crown Post Office in the St David’s Centre will be open today from 8.30am until 12.30pm, but closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. On Thursday December 27, Friday December 28, and Saturday December 29 it will be open 9am until 5.30pm, and New Year’s Eve 9am until 4pm. The branch will be closed New Year’s Day, with normal opening hours resuming on January 2.
For other branches in the city, the Post Office advises customers to check with their individual branch, as opening hours outside of the core times are at the discretion of the subpostmaster.
