Police have increased patrols in Grangetown following a spate of burglaries.

South Wales Police said there had been 16 burglaries in the area since December 1, mostly after 2pm and into the early evening.

Sergeant Gary Evans, who covers the Grangetown area, said: “While we don’t want to alarm residents we feel it is important they are aware of these burglaries so they can ensure their homes are properly secure.”

12 of the burglaries have been south of Penarth Road, with a small concentration around Cambridge Street and Avondale Crescent.

It is thought the burglars are gaining access to properties via back lanes.

Sgt Evans added: “Extra patrols are being carried out and we would ask people to ensure their doors and windows are locked particularly during the early evening and at night.

“We would ask people to report any suspicious behaviour by calling 999.”

Anyone with information on who is responsible for these burglaries should contact South Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
