National Theatre Wales’ first major production of 2013 comes to Cardiff today, with a whole day of theatre and performance celebrating the city’s Somali community in Butetown and the Bay.
De Gabay will begin this morning, with audience members invited into the homes of people living in Butetown, Grangetown and Riverside to watch intimate performances of poetry and theatre.
Then this afternoon, two parades will wind their way through Butetown to the Bay, with one representing the Somali community’s past, and the other representing its present.
The day will culminate in a “parliament of poetry” in the Senedd, and a “spectacular” grand finale on the waterfront – details of which have been kept tightly under wraps. See a full timetable for the day here.
